Stamped “J M Edmond Calcutta” Anglo-Indian Mahogany Marble Top Console Table

A Regal Table Stamped “J M EDMOND CALCUTTA” Anglo-Indian Mahogany Marble Top Console Table. This British Colonial Regency Marble Top Mahogany Console Table was made in Calcutta by the cabinetmaker J M EDMOND in the middle of the Nineteenth Century. The Marble Top is hand-chiseled and hand-polished with a concaved carved edge swooping down and back to the solid mahogany console giving a dramatic Orientalistic Design. The Anglo-Indian Solid Mahogany Console Table is hand-carved and joined with pegged mortises and tenons. The marble slab is resting on a molded mahogany frieze with carved Regency scroll, foliage, and budding intertwined in the center forming a stylized palm. The frieze is supported in the front with bold carved mahogany cabriole legs with a fine carved spur knee. The back legs are in a pilaster form with high style Regency carving finishing with an anthemion. The legs come down to a concave mahogany plinth. The plinth rest on four Octahedral shaped feet.

Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. Hand-polished finish.
