A Regal St. Croix Danish West Indies Mahogany King size four-poster bed made in the first-half of the 19th Century. The flat molded tester is supported by four solid mahogany posts. The headboard post have carved concave twist turned shafts going counter clockwise setting above the carved concave twist turned urns going clockwise. The two foot posts are turned in the opposite directions. The bedposts end with stacked rings and a bulbous vase-and-ring turned feet. The headboard consists of a pierced carved stylized palm fruit flanked with two carved stylized Snake motifs in zoomorphic form representing fertility symbols. The doubled Fertility Symbols are staged above thirteen knob turned spindles resting on the tri-framed golden mahogany panels. The footboard has a mahogany top rail with concave carving on three sides with thirteen knob turned spindles above a wave carved molded and veneered foot rail.
Refinished. Replacements made: Additions or alterations made to the original using antique mahogany: The rails are made out of mahogany for the king size conversion. The bed comes with a custom bucky board that fits inside the rails. The king-size mattress fits inside the rails. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading.
