Details

This pair of candelabras were made in France during the first half of the 18th century. These unique candelabras are statuettes in the form of male and female satyrs. Each of the statuettes holds bronze candle holders resembling torches. The bases of these pieces are made of carved bronze doreĢ and were covered with a wash to portray a darker color. In "Lighting in the Domestic Interior," by Jonathan Bourne and Vanessa Brett, there is a reference to a similar pair of candelabra with switched patina. This pair is featured on page forty-seven in the twenty-seventh insert.
