This substantial cast-iron piece was made in France in the late-19th century. It features a young boy supporting a scallop-shaped fountain tier above an octagonal lower basin. The boy stands on a square plinth bearing the inscription "Salen Fondeur," the name of the foundry where the fountain was cast. The base of the fountain is intricate and contains classical and natural motifs such as a leaf-and-dart molding, grooved cartouches, and panels depicting cattails and bunches of fruit. There have been a few repairs to this piece, including to the fingers of the child's left hand, the lip of the upper tier, and one spot on the rim of the lower basin. This would be a great addition to a formal garden.
