Portuguese Colonial Chest
Indo-Portuguese, circa 1790

This rare chest evokes all
that is unique in Portuguese
colonial furniture. Exquisitely
ornate with geometric
patterns of ebony and ivory
inlay complete with silver
escutcheons. Turned and
carved feet and collonettes
complelment the wonderful
size and useful shape of the
chest. Believed to be a product
of Portuguese colonies in
southern India, perhaps around
Vizagapatam, inlay furniture
flourished in popularity in the
18th century. Unique and
beautiful, this pice is sure to
the subject of many a conversation.
