18th c. Philadelphia Looking Glass
America, Mid 18th c.

A very important mahogany Philadelphia
looking glass, circa 1760-1770. The
mirror is of monumental size and was
probably made for a stately home or
public building.The carved and molded
frame exhibits an arched crest,
wonderful volutes and scrolled brackets
The outside edges of the frame retain
the patinated gilt finish that is also
found on the carved edge inside the
thumbnail molding. This is one of the
largest and finest examples of
Philadelphia Chippendale looking glass.
An identical mirror with the exception
of the size can be found at the
Winterthur Museum, labeled John
Elliott, Sr. 1768-1776.

Price: $9,800
