"Burgomaster" - from the Dutch
"burgemeeter" - is of eighteenth
century origin and suggests
that chairs of this type were
occupied by a person of rank.
This chair is distinguished from all
others by its six legs and rounded
back. This shape, unknown in Europe,
is native of South India and Sri Lanka.
This particular chair is a gorgeous
example of Duch East-Indian
craftsmanship.
